Chicago Issues Proposed Rules for New Paid Leave Ordinance Effective July 1, 2024 and Updates Current Minimum Wage and Wage Theft Rules

On January 18, 2024, Notice Postingthe City of Chicago Office of Labor Standards (OLS) issued proposed rules, FAQs, and a Flyer for its New Paid Leave and Paid Sick and Safe Leave Ordinance (Ordinance) effective July 1, 2024. 

OLS is accepting public comments until February 16, 2024 on the proposed rules for the Ordinance. Public comments can be submitted to OLS via the following methods:

The proposed rules will become final once the notice and comment process required for the implementation of new rules and regulations issued by OLS ends. Click here for a pdf copy of the proposed rules

OLS also released frequently asked questions (FAQs) to provide additional guidance on the Ordinance. Note, the FAQs are not binding authority or law, they are simply guidance about the application of the Ordinance. Click here for a copy of the FAQs

Finally, OLS issued a flyer that City of Chicago employers can post in the workplace to provide employees with basic information of their rights under the Ordinance. Note, the flyer is not OLS’s formal notice poster Chicago employers will be required to post in the workplace. OLS has not released the official notice poster for the Ordinance yet. Proposed Updates to Chicago’s Minimum Wage and Wage Theft Rules

On January 18, 2024, OLS also issued new updates to the current Chicago Minimum Wage and Wage Theft Rules. OLS is accepting public comments until February 16, 2024 on the proposed updates. To submit comments to OLS regarding the proposed updates, follow the instructions above for submitting comments to OLS.
