Overview

DePaul University; Chicago, IL

To encourage a group of graduate students at DePaul University enrolled in a class titled, Entertainment Law for Film Producers and Screenwriters, to inspire change in the world through film, Ryan Jacobson presented "Privacy Rights, Camera, Action! A Primer for Filmmakers."

Ryan guided students through the legal issues and pitfalls they could potentially face when making a film or television show based on real-life characters and events, specifically speaking about the rights of publicity, liability for defamation and intrusion, how to draft and negotiate participation releases and life rights. He incorporated various clips and real-world examples to motivate the class to use their craft to influence public opinion while giving publicity to the heroes who live among us.
